About Us

APEA FC based on the values of sportsmanship, and teamwork

Just beyond the edge of Limassol, where the city begins to fade into open fields and the perimeter fences of the British RAF base, sits the small village of Akrotiri. It is a quiet place, but one that carries a character all its own. Cypriot cafés sit beside British pubs, Greek is spoken alongside English, and football is a language everyone understands. In this unlikely corner of the island, APEA FC has been part of village life since 1955.

Last year the club marked its 70th anniversary, a milestone that reflected not just longevity, but the deep bond between the team and the community that surrounds it. For generations, APEA has been a meeting point for locals, servicemen from the nearby base, families, and young players chasing their first football dreams. The setting may be small, but the passion for the game has always been immense.

In recent years the club has written some of the most remarkable chapters in its history. In 2022 APEA broke new ground when a player moved from the fourth tier directly to the first division of Cypriot football, something that had never happened before. That same season the team produced a campaign that still feels almost improbable. Over 22 matches they won 16, drew 5 and lost only once, scoring 63 goals while conceding just 7. The season ended with the club crowned champions of the STOK Elite Division after a tense 1–0 victory in the final.

Progress rarely travels in straight lines, and the following season brought a different challenge. APEA finished the first phase in fifth place, just a point outside the promotion spots, before navigating the demanding promotion group and ending the campaign narrowly short of the next step.

What followed became the most successful period the club has ever experienced. The 2024–25 season saw APEA reach new ground, securing promotion to the Second Division while also lifting the Cypriot Third and Fourth Division Cup. For a club built in a village beside an airbase, competing against far larger institutions, it felt like proof of what persistence and belief can produce.

Yet APEA has never really been about silverware alone. It remains a club shaped by its surroundings: a blend of Cypriot warmth and British influence, of village pride and football tradition. On match days the accents in the crowd may differ, but the emotion is the same.

In Akrotiri, the beautiful game still belongs to the people. And APEA FC continues to carry that spirit forward.
